The sensing mode decides the quotation. Through-beam needs an emitter and receiver pair, retro-reflective needs a reflector, and diffuse sensing depends on the surface colour of the target.

Beam alignment and response time are checked on the bench before packing. Where dust or steam is present, the quotation notes the cleaning interval rather than promising maintenance-free operation.
